Welcome to Family Medicine

The knowledge area, Family Medicine, takes it´s departure from research problems in primary care among individual persons or groups of people in the catchment area using quantitative and qualitative research designs.

It involves studies of symptoms (for example pain in the locomotors system and reasons for encounters), diseases (such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, diseases related to nutrition and sexually transmitted diseases) and riskfactors to diseases (hypertension, high levels of cholesterol and physical inactivity). In such studies there is an emphasis on cooperation of  preclinical and clinical studies (Translational Research).  Health Services Research can also focus on to what degree established knowledge (Evidence Based Medicine) is put into practice (Implementation Research).

In these studies a transsectional perspective is applied in the analyses taking into account sex, class and cultural aspects and their influence on health and well-being.
