Activities

Professor of Global Health and Director of the Umeå Centre for Global Health Research. Works extensively on health in Southern countries, particularly on issues of measuring health and disease. This involves close collaboration with the Indepth Network, where he chairs the Scientific Advisory Committee, and many of its population surveillance site members. Much of his research is concerned with verbal autopsy and cause of death methods. He directs the WHO Collaborating Centre for Verbal Autopsy, hosted at Umeå University. He is Deputy Editor of Global Health Action and also holds honorary Professorships at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland and Witwatersrand University, South Africa.
